Microchipping Your Pet
A pet microchip creates a forever bond between you and the pet you love. With the HomeAgain pet recovery system, you'll give your pet the best chance of coming back home to you.
Dog and cat microchipping is a simple procedure. We inject a microchip, about the size of a grain of rice (12mm), beneath the surface of your pets skin between the shoulder blades. The process is similar to a routine vaccination and takes only a few seconds. Your pet will not react anymore than he/she would to a vaccination. No anesthetic is required.
Once your pet is microchipped, the next step is to enroll your pets microchip ID, description, photo, and your contact information into the HomeAgain's pet database. This is critical for reuniting you immediately with your lost pet, once he/she is found.
Once enrolled, your pet is entitled to all the additional benefits of the HomeAgain annual membership. The membership includes:
~Updates to your pet or contact information online or by phone.
~24/7 access to the pet hotline
~Rapid lost pet alerts and lost pet posters
~Travel assistance for found pet
If your pet gets lost and is taken to an animal shelter or veterinary hospital, the microchip can be scanned to read its unique dog/cat ID code. This number is used by the microchip manufacturer to identify your pet and retrieve your contact information. That information is used to contact you and reunite you with your pet.
HomeAgain FAQ:
- 1 in 3 pets go missing during their lifetime, and without proper ID, 90% never return home. Microchips for dogs and cats give the best protection with permanent ID that can never be removed.
